Weekend Introduction to Carving
Christopher B. Wagner, MFA
June 16 and 17,
9am to 5pm with breaks for lunch
At Art House in North Portland
A two day introduction to the tools and techniques used in carving a wooden figure. During the workshop you will be guided through the process of planning an original wood carving of your own design, how to express that in a block of wood using traditional carving techniques, and how to finish a sculpture with homemade classical milk paint.
Instructor Bio
Christopher B. Wagner is a sculptor originally from Kentucky but now lives and works on the road while traveling around the country. He focuses on recycled or reconstituted wood as his medium. Utilizing traditional carving skills combining both eastern and western techniques in his creation of contemporary sculpture.
He has earned the Glean Artist Grant, won the Emerging Artist Award from Portland Open Studios, and actively shown in galleries across the country. He possesses an M.F.A. in sculpture from Edinboro University and a B.A. in art with a dual concentration in history and sculpture from Georgetown College.
